If I had to choose a place among the best traveling surprises of recent years, Glasgow I would end up making safe podium.
I recognize it: I chose Glasgow as the destination of my last weekend getaway because it was the plane ticket - departing from Alicante - cheaper than I could buy. And period Now I want to hug the Ryanair bosses who decided that big price drop.
And if the plane ticket cost me little, there is also a lot of free things to do in Glasgow. Here you have the best:
1. Urban art tour through the murals of Glasgow
This is not only one of the best free things to do in Glasgow, but one of the artistic routes that I liked most in my life. And as for urban art, it certainly occupies the first position.
Following an urban redecoration plan carried out by the Glasgow City Hall from 2008, numerous artists began to express their art - and in what way - on the facades of some of the buildings in the city center.
The result was spectacular. An explosion of colors and paintings of great realism have occupied Glasgow. Some of them appear in main street buildings, but others embellish walls of narrow and forgotten alleys, bringing beauty to the rough and dark.
A panda, a guitarist, a toucan, a swimmer, a huge woman who watches the insignificant human being with a magnifying glass, the bearded man with the robin in his hand (for me, the best), the crocodile, the cheapest taxi in the world, the spectacular tiger that watches over the waters of the Clyde River ... In total, more than a dozen murals that you can not miss.
It is a tour that you can do on your own, downloading the free application called Glasgow mural trail.
Without a doubt, one of the best things to do in Glasgow. And without spending a pound.
