Walking on the train track in Auschwitz Birkenau
You have to arrive mentally for the occasion when visiting the Auschwitz concentration camp. The place is one hour by bus from Krakow and is a must for all those who wish to contemplate the history for themselves and have the necessary strength to overcome the harshness of reality.
In Auschwitz there was more than one concentration camp. Auschwitz I, with its legendary and welcome macro Arbeit macht Frei, it has become a museum and its visit is seriously controlled without reaching the obscene review of victims' intimacies as it happens in other places.
Instead, in the neighbor Birkenau It seems as if time has not passed. The place appears before the eyes just as the Nazis abandoned it. The railway It crosses the main entrance and stops before the gas chamber, nowadays destroyed. On both sides there are kilometers and kilometers of abandoned barracks.
Still remembering it chills me. I don't want to imagine Cousin Levi and other survivors what they felt when visiting that hell again.
